PORTLAND, Ore. - South Dakota Mines quarterback Trent McKinney rushed for 206 yards and passed for 297 in setting a GNAC single-game record for total offense of 503 in a 62-44 win over William Jewell (Mo.) last Saturday.

That earned McKinney GNAC Offensive Player of the Week honors for football.

He is one of 14 athletes to win the GNAC weekly award for the sports of football, volleyball, men's and women's soccer, men's and women's cross country and men's and women's golf for the Week of Sept. 22-28.

Football

Offense – Trent McKinney, South Dakota Mines (QB, 6-0, 185, Jr., Mililani, HI))  set a GNAC record with 503 yards of total offense in leading the Hardrockers to a 62-44 win at William Jewell.  McKinney rushed for 206 yards and four touchdowns becoming just the second quarterback in GNAC history to rush for 200 yards in a single game.  He also completed 26 of 36 passes for 297 yards and two touchdowns as Mines earned its first victory of the season and extended its string of consecutive quarters in which it has scored to 15.

Defense – Alex Markarian, Humboldt State (DE, 6-4, 275, Sr., Chino Hills, CA) and Steven Fanua, Azusa Pacific (LB, 6-1, 225, Sr., Milpitas, CA) ... Markarian had five tackles, including 3 1/2 quarterback sacks.  He currently ranks fourth in the GNAC and 25th nationally in sacks as he led a HSU defense which had a season-high 10 sacks in a 34-16 win over Western Oregon improving to 4-0 on the season ... Fanua had 13 tackles including five solos in a 42-23 road win at Dixie State as the Cougars allowed the Red Storm just three second-half points outscoring them 21-3 in the final 30 minutes.

Special Teams – Cedrique Chaney, Central Washington (DB, 6-0, 197, Jr., Kelso, WA) blocked a punt which was picked up and returned 20 yards for a touchdown by Austin Pernell in the first quarter of the Wildcats’ 63-7 win against Simon Fraser.  Later in the opening quarter Jackson Huerta blocked a punt and Chaney scooped it up and returned it five yards for a TD as the Wildcats  built an early 21-7 lead.  Chaney also had three tackles.

Honorable Mention – Terrell Watson, Azusa Pacific (RB, 6-2, 240, Sr., Oxnard, CA); Greg Logan, Central Washington (WR, 5-10, 181, Sr., Graham, WA – Graham-Kapowsin); Dion Stell, Central Washington (DB, 5-10, 166, Fr., Marysville, WA – Marysville-Pilchuck); Robert Webber, Humboldt State (QB, 5-9, 185, Fr., Corona, CA - Centennial); Matt Bruder, Humboldt State (K, 5-9, 185, Sr., Jamul, CA – Steel Canyon); Paul Revis, Western Oregon (WR, 5-9, 165, Fr., Scappoose, OR); Tyler Johnson, Western Oregon (LB, 6-2, 230, Fr., Eugene, OR - Willamette). 

Volleyball

Offense – Elayna Rice, Northwest Nazarene (OH, 6-3, Jr., Billings, MT - Senior) had 37 kills and 34 digs as the Crusaders rank their winning streak to 11 matches with wins over Saint Martin’s (3-0), Alaska Anchorage (3-1) and Alaska (3-0).  Rice hit .283 in the three contests (37-11-92) and also had five blocks and a pair of service aces.  NNU has lost just six sets during its win streak.

Defense – Madeline Hait, Simon Fraser (MB, 5-11, Sr., Burnaby, BC – Burnaby Central) had 13 blocks as the Clan earned 3-2 road wins at Montana State Billings and Seattle Pacific.  The Clan scored the final seven points of the fifth set to break an 8-8 in earning its first win against the Falcons since joining the GNAC.  Hait had blocks on four of the seven points, including the game-winner.   She also had 18 kills and hit for a team-high .385 percentage (18-3-39) in SFU’s two victories.

Honorable Mention – Katelyn Zanders, Alaska Anchorage (OH, 5-9, Jr., Anchorage, AK – South); Catie Fry, Central Washington (S, 5-11, Jr., Tacoma, WA – Mount Si); Kaely Kight, Central Washington (L, 5-9, Sr., Spokane, WA - Mead); Ashlynn Ward, MSU Billings (OH, So., Rexburg, ID): Kimmy Kirk, MSU Billings (DS, So., Colorado Springs, CO); Taylor Roberts, Northwest Nazarene (L, 5-5, Sr., Nampa, ID - Vallivue); Brenna Peterson, Saint Martin’s (S, 6-0, Sr., Olympia, WA); Jessica Riddle, Saint Martin’s (OH, 5-10, So., Anacortes, WA); Kelsey Robinson, Simon Fraser (OH, 5-11, Sr., Surrey, BC – Clayton Heights); Jaryn Ramos, Western Oregon (DS, 5-3, Fr., Kapolei, HI).

Men’s Soccer

Offense – Tody Tolo, Saint Martin’s (F, 6-1, Sr., Tukwila, WA – Highline CC) completed a hat trick in the Saints 3-1 win over Mary on Saturday. In two games, Tolo recorded three goals on seven shots, five of which were on goal, while playing all 180 minutes.

Defense – Yannick Petzschke, Northwest Nazarene (D, 6-3, Fr., Hamburg, Germany – Goethe Schule Harburg) anchored the Crusaders defense in two wins, shutting out Western Washington and beating conference shots leader, Simon Fraser, 3-2. Petzschke scored the first NNU goal in the second half to spark a comeback from a 2-0 deficit against Simon Fraser.

Honorable Mention – Tom Lohmann, Montana State Billings (GK, 6-2, So., Berlin, Germany – Nyack College); Colin Ralston, Montana State Billings (F, 6-2, So., Belfair, WA – Olympic College); Julio Castillo, Northwest Nazarene (M, 5-8, Jr., Boise, ID – Boise); Kyle Witzel, Saint Martin’s (M, 5-11, Fr., Tacoma, WA – Sedro-Woolley); Jordan Kollars, Seattle Pacific (M, 5-10, So., Silverdale, WA – Central Kitsap); Jordan Thompson, Seattle Pacific (F, 5-8, So., Bellevue, WA – Newport); Niko Schrottle, Simon Fraser (F, 6-0, Fr., Dunauworth, Germany – Gymnasium Donauworth).

Women’s Soccer

Offense – Hadli Farrand, Central Washington (F, 5-7, Sr., Ellensburg, WA – Ellensburg) scored two goals in the Wildcats win over NNU on Saturday. Farrand scored the equalizer to send the match into overtime and also scored the game winner in double overtime with one second left on the clock.

Defense – Brianna Jones, Western Washington (D, 5-8, Sr., Bonney Lake, WA – Bonney Lake) led Western Washington on defense in two close conference wins last week.  “Brianna anchored our defense in two home games where we only surrendered a total of three shots-on-goal and she scored the game winner against WOU,” head coach Travis Connell said. “Bree showed her leadership this weekend playing stifling defense and contributing to our attack.”

Honorable Mention – Haley McFarlane, Montana State Billings (D, 5-7, So., Colorado Springs, CO – Cheyenne Mountain); Amanda Perri, Montana State Billings (M, 5-3, So., Lakewood, CO – Bear Creek); Nicole Nsa, Northwest Nazarene (F, 5-7, Jr., Lakewood, CA – Paradise Valley CC); Isabel Farrell, Seattle Pacific (M, 5-5, Jr., Redmond, WA – Washington); Emily Webster, Western Washington (M, 5-6, Fr., Bellingham, WA – Sehome).

Cross Country

Men -  Nathan Richards, Western Washington (Sr., Longview, WA – R.A. Long) and Robert Peterson, MSU Billings (Jr., Billings, MT) ... Richards led the Vikings to a perfect team score of 15 in winning the Saint Martin’s Invitational in an 8,000-meter time of 26:21.78.  Peterson finished third in Division II in the University of Minnesota Roy Griak Invitational in a time of 25:42.2 as the Yellowjackets finished eighth out of 33 teams.

Women – Rebecca Bassett, Simon Fraser (So., Nanaimo, BC) was the GNAC’s top finisher in the prestigious Stanford Invitational.  She placed 37^th overall in a 6,000-meter time of  22:03.  That ranked fourth among all non-Division I runners, trailing only one runner each from Azusa Pacific, Chico State and the Academy of the Arts.

Honorable Mention – Nocona Frame, MSU Billings (Sr., Glendive, MT); Frank Krause, Saint Martin’s (Sr., Onalaska, WA); Megan Teigen, Saint Martin’s (So., Olympia, WA).

Golf

Women - Jenn Paul, Western Washington (Fr., Bellingham, WA) finished sixth in the Western New Mexico Fall Intercollegiate with a 36-hole total of 146 to lead the Vikings to a fourth-place finish.  Paul had rounds of 71 and 75 as WWU opened its season shooting team rounds of 297 and 305.

Men -  Chris Crislogo, Simon Fraser (Fr., Richmond, BC – Vancouver College) placed fifth in the Western Washington Invitational with a 54-hole total of 208, shooting rounds of 67, 74 and 67.  The Clan finished tied for second in the tournament with Cal State Stanislaus with an 849 team total.
