PORTLAND, Ore. - A total of 139 Great Northwest Athletic Conference student-athletes, including 98 women and 41 men, are the recipients of the GNAC’s Faculty Athletic Representative's Scholar-Athlete award.

The award is presented annually to the most outstanding scholar-athletes at each of the GNAC’s 10 universities.

To qualify for the award, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.85.  All student-athletes listed on any GNAC squad list, regardless of whether the sport is an officially recognized sport by the GNAC, are eligible for the prestigious award.

Fourteen of the student-athletes selected to receive the award this year have perfect 4.0 grade point averages including 11 women – Marie-Sophie Boggasch, Sarah Freistone, Sarah Johnson and Simone Penker, all from Alaska Anchorage; Theresia Schnurr of Alaska Fairbanks; Kellie Shreve of Central Washington; Brianne DePuydt and Jinise Osborne of Montana State Billings; Carrie Starbuck of Saint Martin’s, and Suzanna Ohlsen and Shayla Page of Seattle Pacific.

Three men also have perfect 4.0 GPAs – Etienne Richard and Teancum Stafford of Alaska Anchorage and Michael Fehrenbach of Alaska Fairbanks.

In addition three Simon Fraser athletes also earned GPAs of 4.0 or better in the Canadian system, which awards 4.33 points for an A plus.  They included Lorenzo Smith, Helen Crofts and Ariana Sider.

Seventy-eight of this year’s honorees – 50 women and 28 men – were repeat selections from last year.
