PORTLAND, Ore. - Seven Great Northwest Athletic Conference athletes, including Seattle Pacific volleyball player Cailin Fellows, have earned Red Lion Player of the Week honors for their performances during the period of Nov. 5-11, 2012.  They include:

Volleyball 

Offense -  Cailin Fellows, Seattle Pacific (OH, 5-10, Sr., Edmonds, WA) had 26 kills, 12 digs, four blocks and two service aces as the Falcons won road matches at Fairbanks and Anchorage.  Fellows, the GNAC Red Lion Offensive Player of the Week award winner, currently ranks second in the GNAC in kills per set, averaging 3.99.  Her total of 363 ranks first in the conference.   Defense –  Devin Larson, Central Washington (S, 5-9, Sr., Mukilteo, WA – Kamiak) had 19 digs and three blocks and also contributed offensively, earning 75 assists as the Wildcats earned road victories defeating Saint Martin’s and Western Oregon. That performance earned her GNAC Red Lion Defensive Player of the Week honors.   Honorable Mention –  Katy Ferguson, Saint Martin’s; Emmy Dolan, Central Washington; Katlyn Mataya, Alaska Fairbanks.

Football

Offense – Ryan Robertson, Central Washington (QB, 6-4, 202, Sr., Sammamish, WA – Eastlake) completed 18 of 19 passes for 249 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Wildcats to a 51-19 home win against Dixie State.  Robertson, the GNAC Red Lion Offensive Player of the Week,  set one GNAC record in the contest (for highest completion percentage) and tied another by completing his final 15 passes equaling the conference record for most consecutive completions.  Defense – Michael Akins, Western Oregon (LB, 6-3, 225, Sr., Springfield, OR – Thurston) returned an interception 34 yards for a touchdown to give the Wolves an early 14-6 lead on the way to a 38-22 win against Humboldt State.  Akins, the Red Lion Defensive Player of the Week,  also had four tackles, including three unassisted stops.  Special Teams – Jake Tepper, Central Washington (DL, 6-5, 295, Jr., Los Angeles, CA – College of the Canyons) blocked a pair of extra points, one of which was converted into a two-point defensive PAT to claim Red Lion Special Teams Player of the Week honors.  Honorable Mention – Ryan Bergman, Western Oregon; Jerod Baker, Central Washington.

Women’s Basketball

Erin Chambers, Simon Fraser (F, 6-1, So., Mission, BC) scored 51 points and also had 15 rebounds in leading the Clan to three victories, including wins over nationally eighth-ranked UC San Diego (61-58) and No. 13 Grand Canyon (69-60).  Chambers, the GNAC Red Lion Player of the Week, connected on 14 of 25 field goals attempts (eight of 13 from beyond the arc) and also was perfect from the foul line making 15 of 15.  Honorable Mention – Rachel Murray, Seattle Pacific; Bobbi Knudsen, MSU Billings; Brooke Paulson, Saint Martin’s; Ally Schmitt, Central Washington.

Men’s Basketball

David Downs, Seattle Pacific (G, 6-2, Jr., Kirkland, WA – Bellevue Christian) was named the Most Valuable Player leading the Falcons to the team title in Sodexo Tip Off Classic at Brougham Pavilion.   Downs, who also earned GNAC Red Lion Player of the Week, honors scored 31 points and also had a team-high nine assists as SPU debuted with  20- and 19-point victories.  Downs made eight of 14 shots, including four of eight treys.  He also led SPU with three steals and had just two turnovers.  Honorable Mention: Mark McLaughlin, Central Washington; Teancum Stafford, Alaska Anchorage; Sam Johnson, MSU Billings; Anto Olah, Simon Fraser;  Eric Taylor, Saint Martin’s.
