NAMPA, Idaho – In partnership with St. Luke’s Mountain State Tumor Institute, the Northwest Nazarene University baseball program will host the 2013 Cancer Awareness Day this Saturday during their doubleheader against Montana State University Billings.

The Crusaders will be wearing pink uniforms, keeping with the traditional Breast Cancer Awareness theme, however the program would like to honor all of those whose lives have been affected by any form of cancer.

“One of our mottos is to be a light in someone's day," NNU coach Tim Onofrei said.

"Using our talents on the baseball field has allowed us to raise some funds to brighten someone's day. The funds raised have gone to patients by way of gift cards, gas cards, dinner certificate, or other uplifting gestures that can make a tough time more bearable.

The NNU baseball team would like you to invite the community to help support the cause as over 60 percent  of this year's team has been affected by cancer.

Join the Crusaders this Saturday at 11:30 as they gather to support those patients, family member, care givers, and providers: LIVE, CARE, CURE.

There is no admission cost for the game but Pink shirts will be handed out to those that donate at the gate. The player’s pink jerseys may be bought, and special breast cancer hats will also be for sale.

The ceremonial balloon release will take part at noon during the playing of the National Anthem so please arrive at 11:30 to get your balloon and instructions. Tune in on Friday morning at 8 a.m. as Coach Onofrei will be on 580 KIDO, giving more details about the event.
