DALLAS – Fresh off a record-setting performance and a shutout victory, junior right-hander Alex Roth has been named by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) as its Division II Pitcher of the Week.

Named the GNAC and NCBWA West Region Pitcher of the Week earlier this week, Roth struck out 15 batters as Western Oregon secured a series-opening win over Saint Martin's on Saturday. He allowed just one walk and scattered three hits in seven scoreless innings of work, paving the way for a 3-0 victory.

The Peoria, Ariz. product became just the fifth pitcher in GNAC history to tally 15 strikeouts in a single-game. The mark also broke a school record in the process.

Roth leads the conference in strikeouts (56), wins (five) and earned run average (1.75) at the halfway point of conference play on the 2019 campaign.

Earlier on Wednesday, the righty was selected as the West Region Pitcher of the Week over Cal State Monterey Bay junior Ethan McRae and Hawaii Hilo junior Dylan Spain.

Western Oregon will return to the diamond on Friday for a four-game series against Northwest Nazarene. The Wolves currently sit in second place in the GNAC standings.
