Leadership: Alexander Named New NNU President

Dr. David Alexander has been named Northwest Nazarene University's twelfth president. Dr. Alexander will assume leadership following the retirement of President Richard A. Hagood July 31.

Described as a visionary leader and a relational educator, Dr. Alexander comes to NNU from Southern Nazarene University, Bethany, Okla. where he served for 17 years.

He is currently the vice president for university advancement having responsibility for the offices of alumni relations, communications and marketing, development and admissions.

In this role Dr. Alexander managed the largest capital campaign in the university's history. He previously served as chairman of the SNU School of Music.

Dr. Alexander is not a stranger to Northwest Nazarene University. From 1986-1991 he served as a faculty member, was actively involved with faculty committees, directed the Northwesterners ensemble, conducted musical productions and was named “Professor of the Year” by students.

Dr. Alexander holds a doctorate in music education from the University of Illinois and earned a master of music in choral conducting from California State Fullerton.

“I am pleased with the process and the decision of the Board of Trustees,” states Chair of the NNU Board of Trustees Randy Craker. “Dr. Alexander brings a breadth of educational experience that prepared him well to be our next president.” ”

Dr. Alexander and his wife, Sandy (Jillbert), graduated from Point Loma Nazarene University in 1977.

David and Sandy have two adult children: son Matt and his wife Brenda have a daughter Elizabeth; and, their daughter Amy is married to Andy Curry.

When the Alexanders first lived in Nampa, David served on the church board of Nampa's First Church of the Nazarene and Sandy taught at Centennial Elementary School. His parents, Rev. Dave and Lois Alexander, are NNU alumni.
