Indoor Track and Field: PNQ For SMU's Washington

Sam Washington of Saint Martin's posted a provisional national qualifying mark in the men's weight throw at the Jackson's Open Indoor Track and Field meet Friday in Nampa.

Washington finished third in the event with a school-record throw of 57-11. He also was fifth in the shot with a put of 48-6 1/4.

Washington's weight throw was one of seven in the two-day meet which rank in the Top 10 on the GNAC all-time charts. His mark ranks sixth.

Scott Hunter of Central Washington won the heptathlon with a point total of 4,455, while CWU's Jason Caryl finished second with 4,384 points. Those marks rank fourth and fifth on the GNAC all-time list.

Rimar Christie of Northwest Nazarene placed third in the men's 60 meters in the eighth best time in GNAC history (6.99), while SMU's Kyle Van Santen moved into seventh place on the GNAC chart in the 3,000, placing second in a time of 8:34.02.

Jasmyn Jewett of Northwest Nazarene finished fourth in the women's triple jump with the seventh best leap in GNAC history (37-5 3/4) while Joy Warrington of NNU also moved into seventh place on the GNAC chart, placing third in the women's weight throw (51-6 1/2).

In addition to Hunter, one other GNAC athlete won an event. Natalie Evans of NNU finished first in the women's 800 in a time of 2:18.34.
