Volleyball: Seattle Pacific Wins Showdown For First Place

The Falcons (19-5, 13-2), who have won six straight, opened up a 1½-match lead on the Seawolves (15-7, 11-3) with the victory. Western Washington (13-5, 11-3), which defeated Simon Fraser, 25-17, 25-16, 25-20, also trails by 1 1/2 matches.
Northwest Nazarene (15-6, 10-4) stayed within two matches of SPU by sweeping Saint Martin's, 25-13, 25-19, 25-21. Meanwhile, Western Oregon (11-8, 10-5) defeated Central Washington, 25-17, 25-23, 22-25, 25-19, 15-12, and Montana State Billings (10-14, 4-11) outlasted Alaska Fairbanks, 20-25, 25-11, 16-25, 25-20, 16-14.
Wodrich, who has 954 career kills, also had 12 digs in Seattle Pacific's victory. Lowell and Paige Hoffman added nine kills each and Cailin Fellows had eight.
SPU, which got 47 assists from Shelby Swanson and 31 digs from Anna Herold, had a 16-7 blocking advantage over UAA and outhit the Seawolves .203 to .192.
SPU also had a 7-2 advantage in service aces as Pricco had three aces and Wodrich had two. Along with her four blocks, Wodrich finished with a team-high 26 points.
Jackie Matthisen provided about half of UAA's offense with a GNAC season-high 27 kills. Robyn Burton had 12 kills. Defensively, Quincy Haught led the way with 24 digs. Ariel Austin and Burton each had three blocks.
Marlayna Geary had 12 kills and 11 digs to lead Western Washington to its win. The Vikings also got nine kills, three blocks and a .444 hitting percentage from Emily Jepsen.
Kristjana Fridfinnson led Simon Fraser (1-17, 1-13) with 13 kills. The Clan were only outhit .277 to .206, but didn't have a serving ace and were outscored 14-7 from the service line.
Haley Abbott led a balanced Northwest Nazarene attack with nine kills. The Crusaders also got eight kills from Reisa Fessler, seven from Becky Flores and six from Kaitlyn Tuholski.
Defensively, Kailey Trautmann led NNU with 15 digs. Abbott and Flores had a pair of blocks.
Kristyn Ross had 13 kills and Katy Ferguson had 10 for the Saints (6-16, 4-11).
Krissi Kemper had 16 kills and Corynn Kopra has 15 in Western Oregon's victory.
The Wolves also got 10 kills and 12 blocks from Becky Blees and 10 kills and six blocks from Samantha Ward.
Jordan Offutt led Central Washington (12-10, 6-8) with 17 kills, while Emmy Dolan and Megan Ryan were also in double figures with 14 and 10 kills, respectively.
Monica Grimsrud had 24 kills and served the final two points for Montana State Billings' in its come-from-behind victory over Alaska Fairbanks (2-20, 2-12).
The Yellowjackets trailed 2-1 before winning the fourth set 25-20, then were facing match point in the fifth set trailing 14-13.
But, an attack error by the Nanooks, a block by Melissa Porter and a kill by Taylor Adams earned MSUB the victory.
Porter also had eight kills and Chelsey Walter had seven for MSUB. Keri Knight led Alaska Fairbanks with 15 kills. Simone Chavous had 13.
Men's Soccer: MSUB, SPU Win On Overtime Goals

Seattle Pacific also got a game-ending goal by Tyler Schultz in overtime to beat Western Washington 2-1.
Meanwhile, league champion Simon Fraser (16-0, 9-0) stayed perfect defeating Saint Martin's 5-0.
The Yellowjackets (7-8-2, 3-5-2) led 3-1 at halftime, but Northwest Nazarene (6-10-1, 1-9-0) got goals from Christian Adamson in the 50th minute and from Stephen Marshall on a penalty kick at 77:36 to force the extra period. Marshall also had a penalty kick goal in the first half.
In the overtime period, MSUB goalie Eoin Hurley made a great save on a shot by John DiLulo in the 97th minute. Three minutes later Holian ended the contest with his second goal of the game. He also scored in the fourth minute.
“Two factors in the overtime for us were Eoin making a fantastic save and then two minutes later the ball went up to Garion and he scored a great goal,” MSUB coach Dan McNally said.
Hurley finished the contest with four saves as NNU outshot MSUB 13-10. The Crusaders also had a 5-3 corner kick advantage.
Schultz scored on a six-yard header with 46 seconds left in the first overtime lifting Seattle Pacific to its win at Interbay Stadium.
The goal came on the first shot of overtime by the Falcons (12-3-2, 6-2-1), who swept the season series from Western Washington (5-10-0, 3-6-0).
The winning goal came after Danny Brill collected the ball near midfield and fed a pass to Caleb Nyone who floated the ball toward the Vikings' goal.
Schultz sprinted into the box and nodded the ball over goalkeeper Keegan Rogers and into the center of the goal at 99:14.
The seventh game-winner of the season by Schultz gave him a league-leading 14 goals. He moved into the No. 10 spot among all-time Falcons with his 36th career goal.
Rogers was credited with 10 saves for WWU, which was outshot 23-8. SPU goalkeeper Zach Johnson stopped two shots, one of them coming in the third minute of overtime that denied an dangerous effort by Tye Hastings.
SPU got the lone first-half goal, at 36:24. A long through pass from Christopher Morris freed Ryan Brand in the right side of the box.
He veered toward the goal before unleashing a 20-yard blast from a sharp angle that deflected off the goalkeeper before sneaking inside the right post.
The Vikings got the equalizer at 65:11 off a set piece from the right flank. Oscar Jimenez sent a free kick to the near side that Kellan Brown headed inside the right post for his seventh goal of the season.
Simon Fraser scored four first-half goals including three in a 2 minute, 22 second span in defeating Saint Martin's (5-10-2, 4-4-1).
Juan Sanchez had an assisted goal at 15:21. That was quickly followed by a goal by Chris Bargholz at 16:04.
Farhad Abdulgani, who earned an assist on Bargholz's goal, made it 3-0 at 17:43 as Bargholz got an assist.
SFU made it 4-0 scoring with two seconds left in the first half on a goal by Jovan Blagojevic off an assist by Max Baessato.
Carlo Basso earned his 13th goal of the season to complete the scoring in the second half converting a cross from Joseph Martin.
Simon Fraser finished the contest with a 22-4 advantage in shots and a 5-1 edge in corner kicks.
Women's Soccer: SPU Edges MSUB On Late Goal

Central Washington and Western Washington won the other two conference games played Saturday.
The Wildcats (9-4-4, 8-3-2) moved back into second place one point ahead of both MSUB (10-3-4, 7-2-4) and WWU (9-5-3, 8-4-1) with a 1-0 overtime win over Northwest Nazarene (4-13-0, 2-11-0). The Vikings blanked Western Oregon 3-0.
Seattle Pacific (15-2-0, 12-1-0) extended its win streak to eight games with its victory in a game that was played in winds that reached 57 miles per hour.
The Falcons, whose only league loss this season was to MSUB, close out the regular-season next Saturday at home against CWU.
SPU and MSUB exchanged first half goals with Brandi Hamre converting a rebound off a shot from Megan Lindsay for the Falcons' goal at 29:56.
The Yellowjackets (10-3-4, 7-2-4) pulled even at 40:59 as Jennifer Larsen converted a through ball from Jaucelyn Richter.
Seattle Pacific finished the contest with a 21-8 shot advantage and a 7-1 edge in corner kicks. Falcon goalie Brooke Yokers had three saves, while Danielle Gordon made five stops for MSUB.
Danielle Brandli scored from 10 yards into the upper right corner after taking one-touch passes from Sydney Coleman and Amy Pate to give Central Washington its win.
Brandli's shot came 2:09 into the extra session and was the first shot by either team in the OT. In regulation, Central outshot NNU 14-9 and had an 8-6 corner kick advantage.
CWU's Kori Butterfield had five saves to record the shutout. Tanya Zickefoose made eight saves before giving up the game-winner.
Western Washington got goals from Brina Sych, Kristen Maris and Megan Chapin in extending its unbeaten streak to four games (3-0-1) with its win over Western Oregon (5-8-4, 4-5-3).
Sych opened the scoring in the 35th minute, fighting off two defenders to win a long pass from Emily Warman and calmly finish from 12 yards out.
Maris doubled the WWU lead in the 49th minute, turning and firing into the upper right corner from 28 yards out after a pass from Katherine Miccile.
Chapin, who had a penalty kick saved in the 17th minute, completed the scoring in the final minute, redirecting a low cross from the right by Anna Geldenhuys inside the far post.
The Vikings had a 19-9 advantage in shot attempts and goalkeeper Jamie Arthurs made two saves in earning her GNAC-leading 10th shutout.
Men's Basketball: Vikings Win Exhibition With Victoria
Guard John Allen scored 17 points and had five steals to lead Western Washington to a 81-67 win over the University of Victoria in a exhibition contest at WWU's Sam Carver Gymnasium Saturday.
Western held a 38-28 lead at halftime and extended the margin to 17 (54-37) with less than 15 minutes left. Victoria, triggered by back-to-back 3-pointers by Ryan Mackinnon, then scored 13 straight points to pull within four (54-50) with 11:45 to go.
But the Vikings reasserted control of the contest, using a 13-3 run to take a 67-53 advantage with 7:18 to play. The margin remained in double digits the rest of the way.
Terrell Evans came off the bench to lead Victoria with 13 points. Mackinnon added 12 points for the Vikes, and guard Zac Andrus had 10.
WWU forward Rory Blanche had 14 points on seven of 10 field-goal shooting. Guard Rico Wilkins added 12 points for the Vikings, who shot 49.1 percent (28-of-57) from the field, including 47.1 percent (8-of-17) on 3-pointers.
Women's Basketball: Falcons Fall To Washington State
Seattle Pacific forward Katie Benson led all scorers with 21 points, but Washington State rallied in the second half to defeat the Falcons 72-60 in an exhibition game Saturday afternoon at Friel Court.
Six different Cougars scored during a decisive 16-0 run that netted a 62-40 advantage with 8:32 left in the game.
Benson converted two free throws with 13:05 remaining to draw SPU within 46-40. But the Falcons did not score again until 7:16 showed on the clock. A layup by Nyesha Sims stopped the 5-minute, 49-second scoreless stretch.
The Falcons missed four shots during the scoring drought and turned the ball over five times. Fifteen of their 23 turnovers came during the second half.
Tia Presley scored 14 points to lead WSU, which also got 13 from Sage Romberg and 10 from April Cook.
Benson was the only SPU player in double figures. She tallied 14 first-half points to help the the Falcons forge a 36-34 halftime margin. They led the Cougars as many as seven points (36-29 with 1:42 left) in the opening period.
Jordan Harazin had eight points for SPU while Aubree Callen and Rachel Murray each chipped in seven.
WSU built a 22-9 lead in the opening nine minutes before the Falcons responded with a 19-2 surge. Benson scored nine points during the run that put SPU ahead 28-24 with 5:43 left in the half.
